Uri (KürzelUR; urnerdeutsch [(fo) ˈʉːɾi],[4]französisch, italienisch und rätoromanischUriⓘ/?, mittellateinischUronia/Urania) ist ein Kanton in der Deutschschweiz und zählt zur Grossregion Zentralschweiz (Innerschweiz). Der Hauptort und zugleich einwohnerstärkste Ort ist Altdorf.
Geographie
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Der Kanton Uri liegt in der Zentralschweiz zwischen dem Vierwaldstättersee im Norden und dem Gotthardpass im Süden. Uri ist einer der drei Urkantone (Gründungsmitglieder) der Eidgenossenschaft. Die anderen beiden sind Schwyz und Unterwalden. Aufgrund der Topographie mit einem Anteil an gebirgigen, unproduktiven Flächen von rund 56&#;Prozent wohnen drei Viertel der Einwohner im untersten Kantonsteil, in der Reussebene.
Die Ausdehnung Uris entspricht im Wesentlichen dem Einzugsgebiet des Oberlaufes der Reuss und des südlichen Vierwaldstättersees (Urnersee), dessen Ufer von Seelisberg bis Sisikon zum Kanton gehört. Darüber hinaus umfasst Uri auch den Oberlauf der Engelberger Aa und den Urnerbode

Prirodne odlike

Canton of Uri is located in central Switzerland, bordered by the canton of Schwyz to the north, Lucerne to the northwest, Nidwalden and Obwalden to the west, Bern to the southwest, Ticino to the south, and Valais to the southwest. The capital of Uri is Altdorf, known for its connection to the Swiss national hero William Tell, with a prominent statue commemorating his legend.
